Short version: we collect as little as possible, we don't sell it, and there are no ad trackers here.
What we collect
- Submissions & contact. If you use our form, we receive what you send — name, email, your message, and any optional link, city/state, or photo link. These are delivered to us by our form provider (Formspree).
- Reactions. The WAT / LOL / SAME / DEAD buttons record anonymous, aggregate counts. They are not tied to your identity. Your own past votes may be remembered in your browser (local storage) so the buttons stay in sync on your device.
- Visit logs. For security and analytics, we log each visit's IP address, approximate location (country and city), browser and device type, referring page, and the pages viewed. These raw logs are kept for a limited time — no longer than about 90 days — and are then deleted or anonymized. We do not use them to build advertising profiles.
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic — pages viewed, rough location, device and browser. It sets cookies and shares this usage data with Google as a processor. It is not used to serve you ads, and we don't sell it.
How we use it
To review and respond to submissions, to run and protect the site, and to understand which posts land. That's it. We don't build advertising profiles.
Sharing
We don't sell your personal information. Limited processors help us operate — for example, Formspree handles form delivery, Google Analytics measures traffic, and our web host serves the pages. They only receive what's needed to do that job.
Your choices
You can ask us to delete a submission you sent, or ask what we hold, by emailing hello@americawhat.com. You can clear your browser's local storage anytime to reset your remembered reactions.
